Bamboo illuminated by the sunset sky, which is in tones of yellow, gold and amber. Leaves fly in the wind but the stalks remain steady. This zen buddhist mandala, part of the Golden Glow modern art series (botanical visionary landscapes in a contemporary Asian style), is an original acrylic painting on a gallery-wrapped stretched canvas (the 3/4" staple-free sides are finished off in burgundy acrylic)--no need to frame. I have been painting most of my life. Much of my inspiration comes from the beautiful natural landscape of the wst coast...the woods, the ocean, the rolling hills, the native wildflowers and wildlife. Even the surreal tree branches in the Zen series are often taken from the gnarled old oak trees I see on my walks. Other inspirations include teapots (I love tea) and animals, especially cats.
