Artist's Description
Turquoise blue door at the archway at San Juan Bautista (California's 15th mission). The 21 missions were founded by Franciscan friars. The earlier ones were founded by Junipero Serra. After his death, Fr. Fermin de Lasuen continued on and founded this mission in 1812. The mission walls are built with adobe (mud) and you can see the Spanish influence in the tile roof. A pepper tree is in the background. The mission and historic plaza is seen in Alfred Hitchcock's film "Vertigo." This timeless landscape is part of the Eternal Wanderings series, which combines photographs of the places I visit with digital enhancements. The grunge texture and imperfections give the piece a weathered feel.
About Laura Iverson
I have been painting most of my life. Much of my inspiration comes from the beautiful natural landscape of the wst coast...the woods, the ocean, the rolling hills, the native wildflowers and wildlife. Even the surreal tree branches in the Zen series are often taken from the gnarled old oak trees I see on my walks. Other inspirations include teapots (I love tea) and animals, especially cats.
