A whale tail waves in the jewel tones of the sea. In the distance, seagulls fly up from a mysterious island. When I started this pour painting, I only had the colors in mind, no real plan. I changed course a few times while contemplating it, but the island emerging, the fog on the distant bluffs, those clouds...all said "seascape" to me. I have been painting most of my life. Much of my inspiration comes from the beautiful natural landscape of the wst coast...the woods, the ocean, the rolling hills, the native wildflowers and wildlife. Even the surreal tree branches in the Zen series are often taken from the gnarled old oak trees I see on my walks. Other inspirations include teapots (I love tea) and animals, especially cats.
