Owl in Maple Leaves Canvas Print

An owl sits in a tree, illuminated by the setting sun. Some of the red Japanese maple leaves are dancing in the sunset sky, which is in tones of yellow, gold and amber. This surreal piece, part of the Zen Mandala modern art series (visionary landscapes in a contemporary Asian style), is part of the Dreamscapes series, which combines my original paintings with digital enhancements. The grunge texture and imperfections give the piece an eerie, timeless feel.

I have been painting most of my life. Much of my inspiration comes from the beautiful natural landscape of the wst coast...the woods, the ocean, the rolling hills, the native wildflowers and wildlife. Even the surreal tree branches in the Zen series are often taken from the gnarled old oak trees I see on my walks. Other inspirations include teapots (I love tea) and animals, especially cats.
