Quan Yin, the Buddhist goddess (Boddhisattva) of compassion, among branches of cherry blossoms, under a luminous full moon. She holds a dove in one hand and mala prayer beads in the other. This zen mandala is part of the Dreamscapes series, which combines my original paintings with digital enhancements. Many layers went into producing this piece, including a photograph of a local water lily pond. The grunge texture give the piece a weathered, antique feel.
I have been painting most of my life. Much of my inspiration comes from the beautiful natural landscape of the wst coast...the woods, the ocean, the rolling hills, the native wildflowers and wildlife. Even the surreal tree branches in the Zen series are often taken from the gnarled old oak trees I see on my walks. Other inspirations include teapots (I love tea) and animals, especially cats.
