Artist's Description

In tones of sepia and rust, the ghost of Ulalume sits in sad contemplation before a mausoleum. A grove of cypress trees add to the melancholy air. Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's haunting poem, "Ulalume". This haunted graveyard is part of the Dreamscapes series, which combines my original paintings with digital enhancements. The ghost is from one of my paintings and the cemetery is a photograph of the historic Santa Clara Mission Cemetery in California. The grunge texture and imperfections give the piece a weathered, Victorian gothic feel.

About Laura Iverson

Laura Iverson

I have been painting most of my life. Much of my inspiration comes from the beautiful natural landscape of the wst coast...the woods, the ocean, the rolling hills, the native wildflowers and wildlife. Even the surreal tree branches in the Zen series are often taken from the gnarled old oak trees I see on my walks. Other inspirations include teapots (I love tea) and animals, especially cats.
